Hello, My name is John Lanham. I am a firefighter/emt with the Irvington Fire Dept located approximately 60 miles east of St. Louis. I am the founder and president of the Washington County Fire Service Honor Guard. I too was new to the area 3 years ago and saw a need for an Honor Guard. What I lack is a Bagpiper. I would love to learn myself and am totally committed to doing so, the problem is I have no idea where to start. I have done some research and have come to understand that I should purchase a practice chanter. Any help you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Pictures of my team can be found by searching Washington County Fire Service Honor Guard on facebook. Our latest detail was the LODD of Firefighter Corey Shaw of the Du Quoin Illinois Fire Dept. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you soon..JOHN LANHAM

Just wanted to ask some questions concerning bagpipes. I am considering taking lessons and need to know if u can recommend anyone. i found a website that offers instruments and lessons. My greatgrandma was Scottish and I remember her playing the pipes as a very little girl. but she died before i was old enough to get her to teach me how to play. Has been one of my life long ambitions to learn. I enjoy bagpipes and the Highland Guards everywhere. Thanks for your attention.

I work for Rockwood School District in Wildwood, Missouri. I am a staff member for Pond Elementary School Adventure Club program. We have encouraged our students to walk to learn a lifelong healthy physical fitness skill and this year our group selected Ullapool,Scotland as our destination. Our goal was to walk the equivilent of the miles to walk to Ullapool for the school year. Our group has walked 5384 miles so far. Our expectations have been exceeded so greatly, that we have hosting a family party to celebrate and were hoping to arrange a bagpiper so the students can experience real Scottish music. Our budget is limited, so we were hoping for a volunteer. Our event is scheuled for April 9th between 5 and 7 P.M. If there is anybody available from your group, could you please let me know. If you have nobody available, could you let me know if there is anybody else you would suggest?
Thank you for your help,

I recently retired from DoD Civil Service & Military. I have had a dream of playing the Pipes ever since I heard them the first time, I just ordered my chanter from Kilberry in UK. On Tues, 24 July I read the article in the Post-Dispatch about the org. I am submitting an application, I will fund all my own equipment. I also volunteer at Jefferson Barracks VA Hospital and I want to volunteer for burials also. So please look over my application and give me a shot at becoming one of you!

Thank you so very much for the Tribute you provided for our brother, Jim Wainwright's Memorial Service last night, 8/14/06. It was an honor to have your Honor Guards, The Flag Raising Ceremony, The Bag Piper and Bell Ringer. Our loss was very great, but your "Team" made us very proud of you as well as our beloved Jim. Thank you for all of your special training to do this with such poise & dignity.

St. Louis Honor Guard, I just surfed in and found your website. Simply excellent! Having come up through the ranks as a Color Guard/Drill Team member in JROTC and later in the Army, I found the Fire Ax bearers EXTREMELY professional. What finer example for a Fire Department Color Guard! And the dress, drill and deportment of the Pipes and Drums, phenominal. Keep up the good work!
